Hope for Kidz

By Michael Roop

For more than 30 years, Creekside has enjoyed a sister-church relationship with Baraderes Church in one of the most remote areas of southern Haiti. Like many churches throughout Haiti, Baraderes Church has long blessed its community through the operation of a Christian school. Schools like these help support the overburdened public school system in Haiti, which can only provide educational services for a small fraction of Haiti’s children.

From the beginning, our sister church relationship with Baraderes has centered on supporting the operation of their school. This support has grown with the Baraderes district, which has planted four satellite churches since the beginning of our sister church relationship. We support these schools through an annual child sponsorship program called Hope for Kidz, a ministry of Reciprocal Ministries International.

Children who participate in this program receive a full scholarship and so much more. A Hope for Kidz sponsorship also provides a uniform, shoes, school supplies, an annual deworming treatment, and contributions to an emergency medical fund for students in need of emergency medical care.

Additionally, Creekside’s sponsored kids receive even more benefits than those typical to the Hope for Kidz program. Through the generous funding of some people within our church, all children in the Baraderes school and its satellite churches in Pederine and Grand Boucan receive a hot lunch program. This nutrient-rich meal is specially formulated to address the specific nutritional needs of children in areas prone to malnutrition. When combined with the annual deworming treatment, this hot lunch program has contributed to a remarkable increase in the physical well-being of our sponsored children. The Baraderes district has also undergone a major step forward in the quality of the education through the addition of two solar-powered computer labs, which give the children the ability to learn highly marketable computer skills.

It’s important to remember that all of these efforts are funneled through and operated by the local church in Baraderes. While we believe helping break a generational cycle of poverty is a worthy goal in itself, we are so thankful that the Hope for Kidz program goes hand-in-hand with the proclamation of the gospel in the Baraderes district. Our brothers and sisters in Baraderes have done a fantastic job leading this program, and we’re incredibly grateful to play our part.

If you’re already involved in sponsoring children through the Hope for Kidz program, we hope you’ll re-up your annual sponsorship this year so that we can continue to serve our brothers and sisters in the Baraderes district. And if you haven’t jumped in, we hope this will be the year you join us in making a kingdom investment that will pay huge dividends for generations to come.

You can find Hope for Kidz tables set up throughout Creekside’s campus during several upcoming Sundays. And if you’re only joining us online, email haiti@creekside.com to get all the information you need to get involved.
